The technique involved re-exposing the negative to a light source during the development process. This results in a final print that possesses both positive and negative qualities, with unusual areas of highlights and dark outlines, as seen around Mayor’s jaw line and neck. She was eighteen when this solarised portrait was made andnd later became a wartime intelligence officer before marrying Victor Rothschild, 3rd Baron Rothschild in 1946.
